Perovskite SJ and Pero/Si Tandem technologies are attracting significant attention from both the scientific and industrial societies thanks to the rapid increases in efficiency, from about 3% in 2009 to more than 33 % today. Several efforts are put on the ground to chracterize the technological bottlenecks, overcome them and to push the technology toward the commercial world through the photovoltaic module upscale. This imposes a pre-industrial phase, where different equipment from coating systems such as blade coating, slot-die coating and spray coating to printing pathways such as screen, inkjet, and gravure printing besides vacuum deposition and laser patterning methods are currently used to support the potential of PSCs to move to their industrialization.
On June 28, 2023 14:00-15:15 (CEST) VIPERLAB present two very relevant research infrastructures offering state-of-the-art equipment for the fabrication, characterization, encapsulation, upscaling and testing of Perovskite SJ solar cells and Pero/Si Tandem
CEA-PSK - Platform for SJ and PSK/Si tandem stability assessment
The CEA-PSK - Platform for SJ and PSK/Si tandem stability assessment, is an advanced infrastructure offers great opportunites for the:
Several Clean room facilities for the fabrication and encapsulation (hot vacuum laminator, lab roll to roll laminator, UV curing lamps) joined to I-V characterizations (1 sun or low light indoor down to 200 Lux), EQE, Electroluminescence/photoluminescence and measurement of gas permeation of encapsulating materials (permeameters, set-up for the measurement of the side-permeation), and to lifetime studies by diverse climatic chambers for accelerated tests; natural outdoor and artificial indoor platform and optical and electrical simulation assures realization of single and tamdem pero/SI devices and minimudule , their performance testing , and a very deep characterization of their stability. The infrastructure offers advances characterization tool, too: In-lab hard X-rays photoelectron spectroscopy, Time of flight secondary ions mass spectrometry, Photoemission microscopy, UPS Further information can be found here Photo: Lab roll to roll laminator (encapsulation) @CEA-LITEN |
IMEC Perovskite assembly line allows to process full perovskite modules up to 35x35cm² as well as Psk/Si tandem of full wafer size
A slot die coater can deposit solution-based materials while a vacuum thermal evaporation, with 4 sources, and sputtering system, with RF and DC targets, makes a combination of oxide and metallic coatings accessible for both passivation and electrode layers. IMEC developed soft sputtering processes for metal oxides atop perovskite stack without causing damage to the underneath fragile layer stack. In addition, a versatile 3-wavelength picosecond laser system is available for the creation of very narrow interconnections between adjacent cells in the modules. Dispenser and curing stations are available to complete the module packaging. All of these tools are integrated in or connected to controlled atmosphere gloveboxes. A double membrane laminator and screen-printers for patterned metal contacts are also availabe in ambient atmosphere. This enables to create opaque or semi-transparent modules, either rigid or flexible. The line allows versatility of carrier materials to be used, ranging from glass, plastic to metal sheets. This enables to create opaque or semi-transparent modules, either rigid or flexible. The line offers several Characterization and stability testing equipment.
