Perovskite Solar cells (PSCs) have attracted significant worldwide attention thanks to remarkable progress in a very short time with rapid increases in efficiency, from about 3% in 2009 to 32.5% today On other hand the economical, ecological as well as social impacts for manufacturing, operation, and recycling perovskite-based photovoltaic devices on industrial scale are not yet very well understood.
Thus, the overall goal of the VIPERLAB work package on “Environmental, social, and economic impact” is to provide guidance for the infrastructure development within VIPERLAB and for the technology development by the perovskite research community.
As "LCA - Life Cycle Assessment and sustainability practitioners in your fields", we are reaching out to inform you about the LCA Methodology Harmonization Workshop offered on 13th and 14th of March, 2023, in Brussels (hybdrid partecipation).
The overarching goal of this workshop has been to connect different groups/institutes conducting LCA within diverse EU projects, such as VIPERLAB, TRIUMPH, IBC4EU, PILATUS, PEPPERONI, ESPRESSO, VALHALLA, SOLARUP, etc. The aim was to align and harmonize the LCA methodology and subsequent results comparability for perovskite solar cells and, to a larger extent, for innovative PV. Consequently, this workshop seeks to foster the creation of a “think tank” on sustainability assessment for supporting the development of the European technology roadmap for PV.
The workshop is organized by Uni Liege, Fraunhofer ISE, TNO & Uni Siena and was focussed on:
Day 1: Review of the sustainability assessment methodical choices
Session 1 - Introduction to LCA in current EU projects
Session 2 - Background database selection and accuracy
Session 3 - Review of treatment and recycling methodologies
Session 4 - Review of PEFCR default parameters for Perovskites, emerging PV and PV technologies
Session 5 - Review beyond LCA
Session 6 - Review of reporting (confidentiality, transparency, etc.)
Day 2: Expected outcomes, standardized training on LCA & possible conference structure.
The outcomes of the workshop and presentations are now available
